The re-seasoning process can take from 10 days to two weeks with brilliant results!
We will remove the old seasoning and rust from your vintage or contemporary cast iron skillet using an environmentally friendly process.
This process involves removing the rust from your cast iron cookware. I use a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water which does a great job!
After the rust abatement process, your skillet will be thoroughly washed in mild soap and water to remove any of the acidic vinegar. This is the only time you will every use soap on a cast iron skillet!
Here is where things heat up!
After the skillet is washed and cleaned of all soap, it is then baked in a 500 degree oven for one hour to prepare it for re-seasoning.
Your skillet is now ready for re-seasoning! We use Crisco with great results! The skillet will have a coat of Crisco on the cooking surface, and all over the outside and handle. We then wipe off the excess Crisco and let dry in the oven until cool. then repeat the re-seasoning process 3+ times.
Before your skillet is ready for prime time, upon delivery we recommend cooking some fatty meat, poultry or pan roasted potatoes to get your skillet ready to rock. Once you do this you are on your way to a lifelong appreciation of the benefits of cast iron cooking!
The re-seasoning process starts at $100 per skillet. Skillets larger than a #10 (11.5") are $110. Lids are $35.
Any other roaster, griddles, or fryers please email for a quote. A deposit of $50 is required to begin the process. We use Venmo, Square and PayPal.
We charge a $25 minimum fee to pick up or deliver your completed cast iron piece.

Shipping costs are not included with the price of re-seasoning your cast iron cookware.
When sending a skillet for re-seasoning please include return postage. I recommend USPS Priority Medium sized box for shipping most average skillets. Make sure to wrap your skillet well in bubble wrap and cardboard before sending. The Skillet Doctor is not responsible for damage upon receipt due to poor packing. I do make pick ups in The Bay Area of San Francisco, Berkeley and Marin county for a nominal fee based on zip codes.
When inquiring about how to help your skillet perform at it's best, please include photos of the front and back of the skillet for evaluation. I will be happy to give you a FREE estimate upon receipt of your photos!
Most skillets are completed within 10-14 business days from receipt. There are many times a skillet is not cleaning up quickly and the process may be repeated which will add time.
